Observation (No Code)
Have I mentioned I’m a sucker for science fiction? Well, I am. Observation is a fantastic experience with a unique idea of you taking on the role of a spaceship’s AI. Pretty cool, pretty neat. Lots of twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The finale where you roam a planet had a visual bugs, but nothing that took away from the overall experience.
9/10, would recommend to anyone.
The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe (Crows Crows Crows)
It’s The Stanley Parable, but expanded. This was mainly advertised as just a console port with remastered visuals and a new engine (the Unity engine, so nothing too amazing), but it is so much more than that. While not my all time favorite experience of the year so far, it’s my standalone game of the year for sure.
Stanley/10, would recommend to anyone that goes in the right door on the first playthrough.
Tetris Effect: Connected (Enhance EXP)
I don’t have any screenshots of this game because I mainly just play it in VR, but it’s very fun. I don’t usually like Tetris, but Effect is an exception to this. The visuals, the music, and everything else makes me wanna live in this Tetris. Would highly recommend you use a gamepad, however. Not that fun on keyboard.
8/10, recommended to everyone who loves a good challenge and some god damn good music.
The Great Ace Attorney (Do you really need the developer for this?)
Played as part of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles on PC.
I’ll do an in-depth review on this when I finish the second game that’s included, but here’s my quickfire review. It’s a fantastic game that’s held back by some strange software restrictions. Also, don’t dare alt-tab out of it, or else you will face its wrath. (Delayed audio and broken menus.) The restrictions can be fixed with a fan-made patch, but that shouldn’t need to exist in the first place.
Besides that, a great story with great characters. Translates surprisingly well from the 3DS to PC, though I’ve only ever played with a gamepad. If you’re a fan of Ace Attorney, you’ve got no reason not to pick this up.
7/10, recommended with the fan patches.
A Hat In Time (Gears For Breakfast)
The only reason I’m not giving this an in-depth review is because everyone has already talked about this game to hell and back. There’s nothing to say that hasn’t already been said. I loved it enough to purchase the Nyakuza Metro DLC, so that should say something.
9.5/10, lack of multiplayer without DLC is disappointing, but that’s it.
Yakuza 0 (Again. Do you really need the developer?)
Shut up; you hear that? That’s the sound of the internet collectively groaning as a Yakuza fan talks about how good Yakuza 0 is again and how you should totally play it.
Anyway, Yakuza 0 is pretty damn good and you should totally play it.
8/10, future games look much better.
Bugsnax (Young Horses)
No screenshot again! I have no idea where they are and I’m not sifting through my 3 drives to find em.
The Completionist described Bugsnax as “a sleeper hit” and I couldn’t agree more. It seems like the kind of game you’d just ignore on the outside, but you need to give this a shot. Everyone does. I love it from the bottom of my heart and it holds a special place in my life. I would get married to this game if I could, and I’m aromantic!
11/10, kinda game, kinda snak.
And that concludes this edition of “Reviews From The Backlog”! I’m sure there’s game or two I missed but I’m not particularly interested in putting a game up just to completely knock it down. I have no game in my life I would never recommend in a million years.
